(ca.) An era of renewed religious fervor, it is described by Presbyterian minister Lyman Beecher as “The greatest work of God, and the greatest revival of religion that the world has ever seen.” The movement stretches from New England, through the mid-Atlantic states to the Western Reserve, reaches its peak in the 1820s and 1830s, and lasts until approximately 1850.
